Nigerian Army uses drone technology against Boko-Haram
The Nigerian army has adopted drone technology in its fight against the terrorist group, BokoHaram, said the country's Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai.
Buratai told this to the editors and defense correspondents in Maiduguri, Northeast Nigeria, on Saturday while fielding questions at a dinner and media interactive session. According to him, it was necessary to adopt the drone and new technologies in modern warfare for the success of anti terrorism campaigns.
He told the media that the army has utilized the drones in surveillance and research which has a positive effect on the operation against the terrifying Boko-Haram militants.
"Presently, even the uniform is technology-based, it will be labeled wherever you are; it sends signals when you are at risk, and these issues are imperative".
"Innovation is assuming critical job in fighting and we are not behind; we have set up a transformation and innovation department," he stated.
He further said: "The office is dealing with research and improvements on fundamental gear as well as similarly scientific and technological facilities to empower us to complete our operations. We are likewise deploying drones; the Nigerian Air Force has been using drones in our operations in the northeast and they are sending more, it has been exceptionally successful in this operation. We are deploying local drones for the surveillance purposes and looking forward to introduce more which will prove effective and useful in the operation"
He stated that the military has also deployed modern military hardware, rehabilitated office and house accommodation, clinics and executed viable projects for the improvement of personal welfare and boost their morale. He added that the military would equally deploy modern scanning machines to check vehicular movements and enhance security on high ways.
The army chief insisted on the closer media-military relation to check the spate of terrorists’ propaganda and campaign of calumny against the Nigerian Army.
